Overview
The Sync Latest Metafields on Order Update setting controls how metafield values are handled when an order is updated during synchronization with Shopify.
This setting determines whether metafields reflect their current values at the time of sync or remain as they were when the order was originally created.
How It Works
- Enabled
- Metafields are refreshed with the latest values from Shopify each time the order is synchronized.
- Ensures your system always reflects the most up-to-date product or order metadata.
- Disabled
- Metafields remain unchanged from their original values at order creation.
- Prevents updates to historical data, even if metafields change in Shopify later.
How to Enable This Setting
To enable this feature:
- Go to Settings
- Navigate to Integrations
- Select Shopify
- Enable Sync Latest Metafields on Order Update
When to Use Each Option
Enable this setting if:
- You need real-time accuracy for metafield data.
- Metafields represent dynamic information (e.g., inventory status, fulfillment notes).
- Your workflows depend on current product attributes.
Disable this setting if:
- You need to preserve historical accuracy of orders.
- Metafields include time-sensitive attributes, such as:
- Sale eligibility
- Promotional tags
- Limited-time conditions (e.g., return or exchange windows)
- You want to ensure reporting reflects the exact state at purchase time.
Example Use Case
A product has a metafield indicating “Eligible for Exchange” during a seasonal promotion.
- If enabled, and the promotion ends, the metafield may update during sync—potentially altering historical context.
- If disabled, the original value is preserved, accurately reflecting conditions at the time of purchase.
Best Practice
If your business relies on auditable order history or time-bound promotions, keep this setting disabled.
If your workflows depend on live data and ongoing updates, enable it.
