1) Overview
WeSupply now supports exchanges for free items received as part of a BOGO (Buy One Get One) promotion. When a customer exchanges the free item for a variant of the same product, the original 100% discount is carried over so the exchange is also free.
2) Before You Begin
- Your store is connected to WeSupply and exchanges are enabled in your return flows.
- The free item was granted via a BOGO promotion on the original order.
3) How It Works
Step 1 — Enable the Carryover Discount in WeSupply
- Go to: Settings → Returns and Warranties → Return Logics and Policies
- Click Edit on the logic you want to update
- Go to the Exchanges section
- Enable Carry over Item Discount
Step 3 — Set Up the BOGO Discount in Shopify
- Go to your Shopify Admin Dashboard
- Navigate to: Discounts → Create Discount
- Choose Buy X Get Y
- Set up the eligible products
- Set the discount value to Free
Step 4 — Customer Checkout Experience
- Once the customer applies the BOGO code at checkout, the second item will be discounted to $0 as expected.
Step 5 — Exchanging the Free BOGO Item
- If the customer initiates an exchange for the free item in WeSupply, they will be able to choose a variant (if allowed) at no additional cost.
- The 100% discount is carried over, making the new variant free as well.
4) Typical Customer Scenarios
- Size or color change for the free BOGO item.
- Damaged/defective free item replaced with another variant of the same product.
5) Notes & Limitations
- Exchanges apply to variants of the same product (not a different product).
- The discount carry-over logic is intended to keep the exchange free for the customer when the item was free via the original BOGO.
6) Troubleshooting / FAQ
Will customers ever be charged for exchanging the free BOGO item?
- When they exchange for a same-product variant covered by the supported cases above, the 100% discount carries over and the exchange remains free.
Can the free item be exchanged for a different product?
- No. The exchange must be to a variant of the same product (e.g., size/color).
Does this change how returns are refunded on BOGO orders?
- This update focuses on exchanges for free BOGO items, preserving the free value when swapping variants. Other BOGO refund rules are unaffected.
