WeSupply allows merchants to enable exchanges for product variants with the same price — making it easy for customers to swap for a different size or color of the same item without any complications. This guide walks you through how to configure your return logic settings to allow exchanges only when the replacement item matches the price of the original.
Why This Feature is Useful
Exchanges for same-price variants help streamline your return process by limiting replacement options to equivalent products. This prevents pricing discrepancies and ensures your customers can easily swap sizes or colors without needing to pay more or go through a refund-and-repurchase process. When combined with features like discount carry-over and automatic return label generation, it creates a seamless experience for both your team and your customers.
How to Set Up Exchanges for Same-Item Variants
1. Enable Exchanges in Return Logic Settings
- Navigate to your Return Logic settings.
- Select or create a return logic that applies to your exchange policy.
- Enable Exchanges and check the option for “Only allow exchanges for variants of the same product with the same price.”
- Tip: This ensures that customers will only be able to exchange an item if the replacement variant (e.g. different size or color) has the exact same price.
2. Enable Carry-Over Item Discounts (Optional)
- While configuring the return logic, make sure the “Carry-over item discount” setting is turned ON.
- This ensures that any discounts applied during the original purchase are preserved during the exchange process, avoiding customer overcharges.
3. Set Return Locations
- Go to Settings → Locations → Manage Locations.
- Set your Default Ship Location and Default Return Location.
- If you have multiple locations, disable default return options for other locations to ensure returns are routed to the correct warehouse.
4. Customer Experience Example
When a customer initiates a return:
- They’ll choose “Exchange for something else.”
- The system will automatically restrict the available replacements to the same product and only the variants that match the original price.
- If the replacement variant costs more or less, it won’t be shown as an option.
5. Process the Return Internally
Once the customer submits the exchange request:
- You can approve the request manually in the WeSupply backend.
- Use the dropdown menu to select the appropriate return location.
- Generate a return label tied to that location's shipping address.
By enabling exchanges only for same-priced variants, you offer a straightforward and cost-neutral option for customers while maintaining control over your returns process.
